Pregnancy and getting tested

If you are planning to get pregnant, it will be good if you visit a sexual health clinic or local contraception clinic to find out how you can keep yourself and your unborn baby healthy.

Getting Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy TestA pregnancy test can be done from the first day of a missed period. If it is done before this time, it may be too early to show whether you are pregnant or not.

If you don’t know when your next period is due, the earliest time to do a test is three weeks (21 days) after unprotected sex. You can buy a pregnancy test from a pharmacy and can do it yourself, or you can ask for a free test to be done at any contraception/sexual health clinic.

If the test result is positive, then?

If the pregnancy test comes out to be positive, then it means you are pregnant.

It is a bit normal to feel different emotions when you find that you are pregnant.

Whatever you feel, you now need to think what you must do next. It is important to take time to make the decision that is right for you, but you must also not delay in making your decision.

You can choose:

  1. Continue with pregnancy and keep the baby
  2. Get an abortion done
  3. Continue with pregnancy and then have the baby adopted
